Late last year and early this year, I lost my Nan and Grandad. Nan died of complications due to the cancer of the brain lining and my Grandad passed away after several years of severe dementia.
This led me to start thinking of how I could raise some money for Cancer Research, MacMillan Cancer Support and Dementia UK. Since I love walking, hiking, that kind of thing, I planned to do LEJoG.
However, due to my circumstances, where I'm a father of two and have been out of work for several years, it would be impossible to organise a period of 50-60 days in which I could undertake this walk! (For a start, it wouldn't be fair on the wife!)
So I am racking my brains trying to think of ways in which I can justify saying this is a walk for charity, just that I'm taking my time in doing so! One idea I had was to do it in a Year of Weekends, whereby I do the walking on Sat and Sun. 52 x 2 would equal 104 days, give or take, more than enough!
Another idea I could possibly do is to write this blog and attach a justgiving page where people, if they're not bored of all the pictures and ramblings, can perhaps donate a little?
Whichever way I do it, this is a walk I am serious about undertaking. I've been thinking about doing an End-to-End for a long time! And it is not going to be the LEJoG version either. That one goes South/South West to North East. I'm planning to go from the most South Easterly point (or as close as I can get to it!) to the most North Westerly, namely Cape Wrath. I'll be doing this via several National Trail walks, such as The North Downs Way, The Cotswolds Way, the Pennine Way to name a few. (http://www.nationaltrail.co.uk/)
It all starts on Saturday 18th May at the start of the North Downs Way on the Esplanade, Dover...
Excellent stuff mate! Good luck and more importantly, enjoy it!
